¡Hola!

Si vais a estar por NYC estas vacaciones y tenéis hueco entre las visitas al Empire State y demás lugares de la Gran Manzana, me gustaría recomendaros una exposición gratuita y dos experiencias fuera de lo común.

La primera exposición se llama Volez, Voguez, Voyagez y corre a cargo de la firma Louis Vuitton (más info de la exposición aquí: http://us.louisvuitton.com/eng-us/heritage-savoir-faire/nycvvv) e ilustra desde el nacimiento de la firma hasta el momento actual. Es un viaje que comienza en el pasado con los primeros baúles creados por la marca, de los cuales son propietarias algunas de las personalidades más famosas de la época dorada de Hollywood, hasta las colecciones más actuales, como la creada por Marc Jacobs, pasando por diseños textiles como los lucidos por Alicia Vikander cuando ganó su Óscar (¡qué cinturina tiene Alicia!), Madonna o Naomi Campbell entre otras. También, puedes observar cómo crean un bolso de la nada, en directo, o recibir explicaciones de trabajadores parisinos que desempeñan su labor en la fábrica originaria en París. Personalmente, nunca me compraría un bolso de esta marca, ya que el famoso estampado marrón con las letras es lo más repetido del mundo y, a parte, nunca me ha llamado. Pero, a pesar de ser muy escéptica en ello, he llegado a entender que sus diseños adquieran precios tan altos tras ver, en directo, la manera hiper artesanal con que hacen cada uno de estos complementos.

Como ya he dicho, la exposición es gratuita y dura hasta el 7 de enero. Puedes realizarla con un guía,que también es gratuito, o por libre. En mi caso, el primer día tuve guía y otro día volví por mi cuenta para ver con más detalle lo que nos habían explicado la primera vez (el primer día era fin de semana y había mucha gente, por lo que decidimos volver otro día para ver en detalle lo que nos habían contado). Además, al finalizarla, dan un detallito (parece que los van cambiando cada semana porque los detalles eran diferentes un día y otro). Así que no está nada mal.

En cuanto a las experiencias inmersivas, hice dos en una misma semana. La primera, en Red Hook, una zona de Brooklyn. Se llama “This is Real” (https://thisisreal.nyc/). Si queréis, podéis definirlo como un “escape the room” pero no en una forma tradicional, en absoluto. Simplemente diré que sientes que estás viendo una película de terror, pero desde dentro y que, obviamente, no te ponen con la persona que has ido (en mi caso mi compañera de piso), sino con otra gente que, obviamente, no conoces. Reconozco que al principio, pasé miedo (aunque iba convencida de que no tenía que tenerlo porque…”Sara, son actores…”, WHATEVER!). Luego, ya era supervivencia (en el sentido figurado de la palabra, obvio). Pero desde que vine aquí mi objetivo ha sido un reto constante por salir de la zona de confort: saltar de árboles en Club Getaway, tirolinas por las alturas en Costa Rica y ahora esto. Y sí, conseguimos escapar.

La segunda experiencia inmersiva fue el regalo de cumpleaños de mi compañera de piso y se llama “RED” (https://firstpersonxperience.com/red/). En este caso, no era terror, aunque había grandes momentos de adrenalina, el equipo era más grande (aunque la historia empezaba con cada uno de nosotros solo en una habitación), había muchos actores y, como en el caso anterior, era como estar en una película. Eso sí, interactuábamos muchísimo con los actores. ¡ Me encantó ! Además, RED, cuenta con 18 historias diferentes así que, aunque repitas, sería muy raro que acabes dentro de la misma situación.

Tras esta semana de emociones fuertes, descubrí que al actor Neil Patrick Harris (os sonorá mucho por How I met your mother) también “le va el mambo” y ha participado en estas dos experiencias (supongo que irá probando todas las que aparecen por la ciudad).

If you are going to be in NYC this holiday and you have a gap between visits to the Empire State Building and other places in the Big Apple, I would like to recommend a free exhibition and two unusual experiences.

The first exhibition is called Volez, Voguez, Voyagez by Louis Vuitton (more info about the exhibition here: http://us.louisvuitton.com/eng-us/heritage-savoir-faire/nycvvv). It illustrates from the birth of the brand to the present time. It is a journey that begins in the past with the first trunks created by Vuitton, some of them belonged to the most famous personalities of the golden age of Hollywood, up to the most current collections, such as the one created by Marc Jacobs, passing through textile designs like those worn by Alicia Vikander when she won her Oscar (what a tiny waist Alice has!), Madonna or Naomi Campbell among others. Also, you can observe how they create a bag from nothing, live, or receive explanations from Parisian workers who perform their work in the original factory in Paris. Personally, I would never buy a Vuitton bag, since the famous brown print with the letters is the most repeated in the world and, apart from that, it has never caught my eye. But, despite being very skeptical about it, I have understood why their designs acquire such high prices after seeing, live, the hyper-handmade way in which each of these complements are made.

As I said, the exhibition is free and lasts until January 7th. You can do it with a guide, which is also free, or by yourself. In my case, the first day I had a guide and another day I went back on my own to see in more detail what they had explained to us the first time (the first day was a weekend and there were many people, so we decided to return another day to see in detail what they had told us). In addition, at the end, they give you a little gift (it seems that they are changing every week because the gifts were different each day).

Talking about the immersive experiences, I did two in the same week. The first took place in Red Hook, an area of Brooklyn. It’s called “This is Real” (https://thisisreal.nyc/). Then, it was all about survival (in the figurative sense of the word, obvious). But since I came here, my goal has been a constant challenge to get out of the comfort zone: jumping from trees in Club Getaway, zip lines through the heights in Costa Rica and now this. And yes, we managed to escape.

The second immersive experience was my roommate’s birthday present to me and it is called “RED” (https://firstpersonxperience.com/red/). In this case, it was not horror, although there were great moments of adrenaline. The team was bigger (although the story started with each of us alone in different rooms), there were many actors and, as in the previous case, it was like being in a movie. Of course, we interacted a lot with the actors. I loved it! In addition, RED, has 18 different stories so, although you repeat, it would be very rare that you end up in the same situation.

After this crazy week, I discovered that the actor Neil Patrick Harris (How I met your mother) also “loves living dangerously” and has participated in these two experiences (I guess he checks all those that appear in the city).
